In an effort to round out my life, especially since the time when I can occupy my weekends in Princeton will be coming to an end in a few months, I'm trying to find new things to do, especially on weeknights so I can start them now.

As it stands, my sporadic evening activities include dinners with friends and shows with my mother. And, um, laundry. And CFA studying, but I'll be trying to do more of that at lunchtime when it gets warm enough to sit outside.

So far, I've found two choruses I'm interesting in auditioning for, and a Magic: the Gathering group that looks promising. Anyone have other suggestions to get me out of the house and meeting new people? Specific ones would be best, but general ideas are good too.

Magic: the Gathering group? ::cough cough dork cough cough:: Well, if you were a normal guy I'd say go out to a bar or a dance club, however that's not your style so how about come nice poetry readings at coffee houses? Those are fun. :)

Next time you go to a poetry reading in the city, invite me along. I wouldn't want to go by myself. What if I was snubbed because I wasn't wearing a beret?

We could buy you a beret.

I actually own one. Maybe I should retrieve it from F'dale so I can wear it into pretentious coffeehouses.

Um...join a gym? And seriously, do you want ask me, miss overcommitment? There's always freelance work. Or, um, join a reading group. Or a writing group. Or a knitting group. Or a chamber chorus (wait - are you a tenor or a bass? the one I'm sort of in is looking for tenors).

What choirs are you trying out for?

Okay, let's answer everything here: L-A has a company gym, I use it once or twice a week. I'm doing freelance work as it becomes available to me, but I don't really want to go out hunting for it--I don't really like networking. I'm a tenor; which choir is looking for them and have I seen you perform with them?

I've emailed the University Glee Club of NYC and I'm going to an open rehearsal for the Big Apple Chorus on Monday. I miss doing barbershop.

...a knitting group?

The group doesn't have a name yet and is half people in Dessoff. We've never performed and only rehearsed a handful of times. Honestly I go just to hang out at a bar after rehearsal. I may drop it.

Why don't you try the Young New Yorkers Chorus?

I was going to suggest YNYC...apparently there are a bunch of Tigers in it. Hence why their concerts get plugged on the new-york-alumni list all the time.

There's a New York alumni list?! How did I miss that?

Well, my sister is the moderator...hence why there are proportionately more posts from her than anyone else. It's a Tigernet discussion list (which I assume you know about already) under regional...new-york-city-alumni
Since you live there, you should probably join, there's not too much traffic.

You can't spend too much time with your mother.

And then they won't snub you.
