I used the Randomizer from https://hmsjayne.com/; and specifically I flagged to randomize key items and all treasures with high wealth level and high exp scale. The randomized key items was my primary criteria, as I had tried the Approaching Chaos randomizer previously and the fact that it doesn’t do that made the experience kinda boring to me.

Full details of my run below.

Fighter, Thief, White Mage, Black Mage. They give you the airship right away, but I opted to head to the temple of fiends chaos shrine. Found a Cottage, an Assassin Dagger and the Gauntlets in the three chests, which gave me a big head start. (Also, the high XP means gaining levels like whoa.)

Steamrollered Garland to rescue the robot and get the nitro powder. Talking to the robot then also gave me the warp cube. This didn’t repair the bridge, though.

Matoya’s cave had an Orichalcum Dagger and Crystal Shield. In Pravoka, I fought the pirates and a mermaid gave me the Rosetta Stone. I grabbed a bit of extra armor in Elfheim, then visited the dwarves, where I found a ton of gold and a Light Curtain, and the nitro powder allowed me to get the star ruby.

The Marsh Cave included: Lots of gold, a Twist Headband, an Ether, a Megalixer, a Hi-Potion, a Mithril Sword, and a Megalixer from the Wizard Piscodemon chest. The Orichalcum dagger turns out to work like a Blood Sword, so it was dangerous to use on undead; but I had the Gauntlets to breeze through the place. I had forgotten there were Key doors at the bottom of the cave.

I swung by Crescent Lake, but Lukhan was the Fairy and wouldn’t give me anything. The Cardia Islands had an Enhancer, a Mind Plus, a Protect Ring, Thief’s Gloves, a Protect Cloak, a Sage’s Miter, two Emergency Exits, and Dragon Mail.

Then I headed to Melmond, where Dr. Unne traded the Rosetta Stone for the Earth Rod. I upgraded my armor and spells while I was there. I fed the star ruby to the Titan, and his cave had a Speed Plus and the Excalibur. Sarda gave me the Chime.

At this point I was level 22 with a hodgepodge of equipment, so I decided to try the earth cave. The Genji Gloves, a Faerie Tonic, and another Excalibur (plus a load of cash) preceded the Vampire. I suspect it was because I had the earth rod (or maybe not? I still needed the rod to continue), but a mysterious figure behind him gave me the Crown. Below there, the treasure room had an Ether, a Hi-Potion, a White Curtain and the Judgement Staff. I fought Lich, and emerged at level 34. Then I took the Crown to Astos, who taught me to speak Lufeinian.

The hike to Lufien was a bit harrowing, but it rewarded me with the Canoe. Also, returning to Crescent Lake after beating Lich got me the Oxyale. Having everything I needed to reach it, I tried the Castle of Ordeals and got a Black Robe, Sasuke’s Blade, White Curtain, a Megalixer and a Razer. The Adamantite was at the throne, so I brought that to Smyth and he rebuilt the north bridge. At this point, I was coming up on hour two and was level 41.

Flush with cash, I bought the bottled fairy from the caravan and released it in Gaia, which blew up the canal. I grabbed Protect Rings for my party, and then went to the Ice Cave, where the first chest I opened was a Masamune. I actually found a second Masamune, a Red Fang, a Light Robe, a Megalixer, an Angel’s Ring, a Diamond Armlet…and then the Eye dropped the Rat Tail. I ran to Bahamut and got my class change, which enabled me to use a bunch of the cool stuff I’d been picking up.

Then I headed to Mount Gulg. The chests included two White Robes, a Judgement Staff, Dragon Mail, two Twist Headbands, Cottage, Speed Drink, Dry Ether, Flame Mail, Crystal Shield, two Silver Armlets. Downstairs was an Ether, an Ogrekiller, yet another Excalibur, a Crystal Ring, and a Ragnarok sword. My team grew even more overpowered, reaching level 54 after I beat Marilith.

The Waterfall had a Hermes Shoes, lots of cash, and a dwarf that gives you the Excalibur and then fizzes out. The upper part of the Water Shrine had a Genji Helm, Crystal Mail, a Kenpogi, a Blue Fang, and Matoya’s Crystal Eye. Matoya, amusingly, gave me the Jolt Tonic, so I woke the Prince and Princess Sara gave me the Lute.

The lower part of the Shrine had a Braveheart sword, Gigantaxe, Sun Blade, Ruby Armlet, Silver Armlet, Remedy, Crystal Mail, and lots of cash. Kraken died as quickly as the other fiends.

Lacking any better ideas, I headed for the Tower. There was a Broadsword and a Ribbon on the first floor. The Sky Castle had an Emergency Exit, a Dry Ether, two Flame Mails, a Tent, two Megalixers, Cat Claws, a Wizard’s Hat, and a Power Vest. And where the Adamantite usually is, an elf gave me the Mystic Key.

The treasure rooms in Corneria had a Duel Rapier, a Protect Ring, and the Levistone. The Western Keep had an Ether and yet another Masamune. The Temple of Fiends just had cash. Using the Levistone in the desert made the ship appear in Pravoka.

At this point, my team was level 81, had mostly maxed stats and far better equipment than was in the base game. I was three and a half hours in.

The Temple of Fiends Revisited had the Genji Armor, Black Garb, and I picked up a Deathbringer at some point but have no idea when. (I skipped the usual Masamune chest.) Chaos was…not difficult.

Overall: This was an entertaining diversion! I suspect that the fact I was playing on mega-easy mode actually hurt my experience, and limiting myself to either high wealth/best equipment OR high XP would have been better. But then, having neither would risk creating situations where the only available options were high-level areas that your party couldn’t handle. Or mine, you might be more hardcore. If you’re a fan of FF1, give it a try.
