Brooklyn 99 (TV Series, Season 6) - More of the same? Except for the marked increase in bleeped cursing, it’s pretty much just more of what we expect. They wrap up the cliffhanger, they do all the standard episodes (the heist, Doug Judy, etc). Gina leaves the show but she gets a “return” episode late in the season. Interestingly, they don’t end on a cliffhanger: The big finale plot actually goes right, and though Holt has a few months of being humiliated by Wunch, the status quo can be in place for the next season.

Steven Universe (TV Series, Season 5, part 2) - I finally caught up on the last eight episodes, which bring the series to a pleasant close. (I mean, except for the movie and the sixth season that supposedly will follow it, but y’know.) This actually wraps up a lot of ongoing plotlines from the very beginning of the series, answers some things people have been wondering about for years, and generally resolves the major villains of the piece. And for all the action sequences, Steven’s track record remains for defeating his enemies by making friends with them.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (Netflix, Season 3) – We learn a bit more about the history of She-Ra and of Hordak; and Catra completely loses her shit and manages to break reality in the process. (Also, the sword surrounded by lightning as the focal point for a portal was a lovely visual callback to the opening of the original series.) There are a few lead-ins to the next season, involving both Glimmer’s parents and the fact that Horde Prime now knows about Etheria. Honestly, there was no reason to split this off from Season 2. I continue to be excited about the mythology, though.

Ducktales (2017 TV Series, Season 1, part 2) – The distinctive personalities for the three nephews is one of the reasons the dialogue really works: Huey is the “good boy”, the high achiever. Dewey wants to be like Scrooge. Louie is the evil triplet, but moreso, he’s the greedy and lazy one. Webigail has a focused naivety to go with her insane survival skills, knowledge of monsters, and inappropriate excitement. The reverence to the wackiest Don Rosa and Carl Barks stories is glorious, as are the casual asides that Scrooge has unnatural longevity from various supernatural encounters and is really, really old. (He accidentally made his parents immortal, too, so they can be disappointed in him forever.) I loved the ongoing side-stories about Della and Magica (both of which will presumably continue to pay off in the second season), but I loved the fact that every episode had a main plot even better. Oh, and the finale gag with Donald speaking intelligibly was glorious. This show is a delight.
