Yeah, apparently the call of 16-bit farming is too strong to resist.

I tried this go-round with Tooshi’s randomizer mod, the main draw of which is creating new Community Center bundles. (As noted before, I think of the Community Center as the “main quest” of the game.) I believe the farm name is the randomizer seed, so if anyone else wants to try “Rando” farm, be my guest.

I give him a lot of credit for making the bundles feel sufficiently random but still making them finishable—I feel like it would be way too easy to lock the bus repair behind a bundle that required desert gatherables if you weren’t careful. I also thought the randomized crafting recipes made for an interesting twist, as it meant there was no point in certain consumables and that influenced my development. (I never needed pine tar or oak resin, but I was tossing corn in my oil maker like crazy and needed a lot of cave carrots and largemouth bass.) This clearly also required balance, because if you needed coconuts to make a chest or iridum to make scarecrows, the game would be practically unplayable.

The rest of the randomization didn’t do much for me: The mild fish behavior changes, mine level layouts, and randomized prices didn’t really impact my play experience. Several NPCs swapped appearances, but that only served to cause confusion because they were otherwise the same as in vanilla. I was amused by the weird rain effect and the fact that my goats were bears.

Upon reflection, I think I’d love to play a “megabundles” mod, where there were dozens on themed bundles to complete.

As a side note, this was also my first time playing the v1.3 improvements, and I thought the Night Market was a cute addition (and would have made my attempts to grow various things in my greenhouse during winter in my last playthrough much easier) and loved the secret notes, as they cut down on guesswork/wiki-diving significantly.

Overall: This play-through made it clear to me what I would want from Stardew Valley 2: More of the same. New bundles, achievements, townspeople personalities and things to find/grow/make, but exactly the same gameplay style and graphical layout.
