The Dragon Prince (Netflix, Season 1)
Nov. 6th, 2018 01:20 pmWhile some of the Avatar creators were making Voltron, the rest of them decided they weren’t done with Asian-inspired complicated fantasy magic worlds. The elves got freaked out that humans were using life-draining dark magic rather than one of the six natural sources, so they split the continent and set the Dragon King to guard the border. Humans managed to kill the king, but there is the small matter of his heir…
Black royalty! Scottish elves! Deaf-mute knight captains! Snarky commentary everywhere!
I was surprised, though only mildly, that they didn’t even make it to the border in this chapter, and instead made the major arc the bindings—which even seemed more important than the fate of the egg right up until the two plots ran into each other.
Random theories:
- I was pretty sure from early on that the king’s spirit had been put into the pet bird. I maintain that theory.
- Viren (Wizard-dad) is the main villain, though there will be a bunch of elf (or elf-adjacent) antagonists over time.
- After a season or two of chases and misunderstandings, Claudia and Soren will join our heroes against their father. Claudia may need to have evil magic flushed out of her in the interim.
- Callum is going to discover more ways of using “good” magic, and we’ll likely learn more about his birth father and his actual heritage.
Overall: Clearly they have another five or six chapters planned (Sun, Stars, Earth, Sky, Ocean and possibly Dark). I’ll be interested to see where this goes.
