chuckroAs this is another six-episode half-season, I'm not sure there's a lot of depth to go into.
Plots progress, Haggar schemes, Shiro is having problems, the rest of the paladins sneak in moments of character depth, and Allura is worthy where Lotor is not (big shock).
I'm not surprised they finally killed off Zarkon for good—he was a zombie in more ways than one, as his role in the plot had been thoroughly exhausted and he had little left to do than to be a monster to fight and a figurehead for Haggar. They're clearly setting up Haggar to be the next real “big bad,” though I suspect we're still likely to see Lotor's sudden but inevitable betrayal.
Lotor's “Gladiator Voltron” ship seems to have been forgotten for the duration of this—we see his adventures and those of his former minions, but it's not clear where the two completed ships and the materials for the third ended up, unless I missed something.
The hint a lot of shipping: Lance/Allura and Lotor/Allura being the big ones, of course; but the fact that Pidge/Hunk gets both hinted by Pidge’s father and called out as “Punk” is also noteworthy.
Overall: The lack of “filler” episodes in the half-seasons hurts the pacing of the show, I think. Not that I mind learning about Keith’s mother or Project Kuron faster, but really. I know they’ll never, ever do this, but how cool would it be if they went back and “back-filled” earlier seasons with more adventures?
