Cleaning Off My Tablet, March 2018
Mar. 5th, 2018 08:34 amI've had a host of games on my tablet for over a year, most of them long marked as “played” but with some intention that I'd return to them. I'm going to log what these games were, but then I'm going to delete them so I have room to install new games that interest me. The thing is, pretty much everything on this list is a good game that I'd recommend, I'm just fairly conclusively done with them.
Weapons Throwing RPG - The sequel was the same game, but superior in a lot of key ways. I'm not going to go back to the original.
99 Bricks - This is “cruel Tetris” where the blocks don't lock into place. It's clever. I played a superior Steam version of it called “Tricky Towers” and haven't been back to the Android version since.
Magic Touch - Trace runes to destroy enemies trying to land on your castle. Fun twitch-based casual game that I was never amazing at and haven't been back to in quite a while.
You Must Build A Boat - The sequel to 10000000, it's a dungeon runner matching game with a clear goal. I built the boat. If I decide to replay it, I'll start from the beginning and build a new boat.
Puzzle Forge 2 - Very similar gameplay to Triple Town, you need to combine three of each level of mineral and eventually forge them into weapons to sell. It has more of a campaign and set goal to it, which makes it more fun to marathon but less interesting as a “pick up and play” game. It's a fun casual game that I played a lot of, but I “finished” it and don't really feel the need to return.
Juice Jam - I was playing both this and Cookie Jam for quite a while, but then I started focusing on that entirely and lost interest in this. They're essentially the same match-3 game, and I don't need both in my life.
Smoothie Swirl - I played many stages of this swipe/matching game, but found that the difficulty curve was too much for me to enjoy casual play—I ended up needing to grind gold for power-ups by doing earlier stages. (I love that they have that feature, by the way, but the inability to make forward progress without it meant I quickly lost interest whenever I returned to the game.)
Tap My Katamari - Tap to roll forward in a straight line! Leveling the Prince makes the taps increase your numbers faster; leveling the cousins makes you earn more gold while not playing. The King will periodically appear to give you the option of watching an advertisement in exchange for in-game gold or candy. You can turn your katamari into a star to buy presents that provide multipliers to your various numbers, to make your next run faster and next set of numbers even higher. (This isn’t really a Katamari game; it’s just a Katamari-themed generic tapper. At least it’s just ad-based and doesn’t require any real money purchases?)
Cookie Breaker! - A mindless tap game that I broke the top off—it may have been updated since, but when I last finished with it, I had every available power-up and there was no where left to grow.
InflationRPG - A sorta-roguelike action/rpg where the key is to repeatedly tackle the game (and die) and get stronger, and the number inflation is a special kind of insane. I very much appreciate the depth and challenge involved in this, and the number of secrets hidden within. I've had my fill of it and if I ever go back, I'll likely want to start from scratch anyway.
Word Cookies - A fairly mindless word-making game; no timer and no penalties for incorrect words, just eventually finding all the combinations in each dish of letters.
Lazors - Move blocks to block and reflect lasers to hit various targets. No-fills cute puzzles; I did all the ones that interested me and basically forgot the game existed.
Shooting Stars! - A rare shoot-em-up that I really enjoyed, partially owing to the touch-controls and reasonably generous hitbox. But there are only so many times you can blow up Nuck Chorris before you've had enough—I can always reinstall it if I get a craving.
I'm keeping Gemcrafter: Puzzle Journey, AlphaBear and TripleTown for now, as I do still periodically return to them.
