Pretentious Game - A deliberately-over-pretentious love story that is actually the clued instructions for a shape-based puzzle-platformer. (Some of the later bits get a little obtuse.) Four chapters, probably an hour of gameplay total. Clever for what it is; probably my favorite of this first batch.

Type:Writer - You play as a pair of dots (possibly a colon, possibly an umlaut) that travel the land recovering letters and pages of books about the history of written language and fonts. The actual gameplay is puzzle-platforming and feels like it’s secondary to somebody’s pet research project.

Meltdown - Top-down run-and-gun action game, with rpg elements. (You earn XP and gold during missions to spend on skill and weapon upgrades for your character.) My dislike of the virtual keypad (and lack of tactile feedback) rears its ugly head, but on the whole, I think this is a good example of the genre. I would have thought that using the same button for jump, roll and melee attack would be an issue, but for the most part it was okay.

Twin Blades: The Reaping Vanguard - Requires a big download to start. Hack-and-slash side-scrolling zombie-killing game, with rpg elements (you can trade “zombie hearts” for weapon and character upgrades). You have a gun and a melee weapon, and the latter recharges the former. Basically, grind by beating up a lot of zombies so you can get stronger to beat up more zombies later. It gets old quickly. The art style feels Nippon Ichi inspired.

Orborun - A puzzle/racing game, where you play a robot that can roll up into a ball and you roll along a wall-free track collecting coins and breaking obstacles. I had some difficulty not falling off the track to my poor Orbot’s untimely demise. (Collecting coins allows you to unlock more Orbots and versions that have additional extra lives.)
