Monkey Likes Oatmeal

chuckroARR’s “unofficial” Christmas present (because it had all been purchased at garage sales and had been in my parents’ basement for months) was a kitchen set, complete with play food, plus a checkout counter and a shopping cart.
As the play kitchen was always one of my favorite toys, and he sees mommy and daddy cooking all the time, it isn’t really surprising at all that he loves this set.
He’s started insisting that we have sit-down meals, using a big plastic tub as the table. Everyone present needs to have a meal, including his stuffed monkey and a little plastic Abby Cadabby (who needs a “booster seat” to sit at the table, because she’s not allow to sit on it). Monkey’s favorite food is also ARR’s current obsession: Oatmeal.* You make oatmeal by putting it in the oven, on the stove or in the microwave, and then instructing everyone present that they need to wait. Then monkey needs his spoon and has to blow on the oatmeal because it’s hot.
How he plays pretend is an awesome read on what lessons he’s absorbed!
*The part of “oatmeal” is played by plastic scrambled eggs. Given that ARR can’t eat scrambled eggs and last encountered them a year ago, it makes perfect sense that this toy has been redefined to something within his range of experience.
