Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga (PS3)
Jan. 7th, 2013 10:30 pmA long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…everything was made of little bricks and studs that conveniently fit together!
This is the PS3 combined version of the first two Lego Star Wars games, originally for the PS2. And it was an amazing game when it first came out, that only holds up moderately after you’ve played later games in the series. We were spoiled by the split-screen and the ability to swap between characters we weren’t directly butting up against. They’ve been improving the games as they go, far as I can tell, which is good.
I think they made the pod race easier—when I played the PS2 Lego Star Wars, I remember that level being a pain and having to do it over and over. We finished it in the first go. (Maybe I’d been playing it one-player last time, and that forces you further back?)
Also, I think the studs bounce more and need to be closer to your hitbox to actually pick up that Lego Pirates. I ended up putting in the code to unlock the Stud Magnet-- the fact that you can enter codes to get “Extras” like Stud Magnet, the various stud pickup multipliers and the minikit detector make some of the more frustrating aspects of the game more fun.
The cutscenes are adorable. In tune with the movies, but will a bit of added Lego silliness and a lot of cute side-bits. And they’re very good with facial expressions.
Overall: It’s cute, and if you want to get into the series (which is generally good for two-player fun with a less-gamer-ish significant other), start here. You’ll get spoiled by small but noteworthy improvements to the later games.
