I Should Have Done This Some Time Ago
Feb. 25th, 2015 11:49 amI finally made a mp3 mix CD for my desk with tracks from the two-dozen new albums I’ve picked up in the last few years that I haven’t listened to nearly enough of. I’ve more tended to listen to my Pandora acappella station at work or (in the rare instances that I can listen to music at home that isn’t Truck Tunes) a limited mix of my older favorites. I tend to find it easier to get into an album when I’ve been introduced to a few songs from it as part of a background mix, so my hope from this is that it’ll help me get some of these more recent albums/new additions into the regular mixes and things that I’ll pick out deliberately.
Contributors include: Jewel, Natalie Merchant, Chantel Kreviazuk, Meatloaf, Cake, The Milk Carton Kids, Lindsey Sterling, Sarah Donner, and Melissa VanFleet. (Heather Dale and Weird Al were left out of this mix, because I feel like I have actually spent time listening to their newest stuff on heavy rotation.)
The next trick will be picking out the best tracks and sorting out a good order of solid songs so I can make a new car trip mix—the last one I made was in 2012, but the last one that didn’t feel rushed and loaded down with duplicates was in 2009.
And yes, I do realize that I was introduced to fewer than half of the artists referenced above after I graduated from college. I’m trying to keep my tastes broad, but there’s only so broad I’m willing to get.
