The King of All Cosmos got drunk and knocked all the stars out of the sky. It’s up to the tiny Prince to clean up the mess, by rolling all the things on Earth into various lumps to make new stars out of.

Let me be clear: I (heart) Katamari. I’ve played all of the installments, including the PSP version and the stupid Katamari tappy game. I have been hoping for some new Katamari content for quite some time despite how much it makes my thumbs hurt, because it's so darn fun.

This game was disappointing, then, because I didn’t do my research: I was hoping there would be some new levels or content. Unfortunately, no, it’s basically a straight port of the original Katamari Damacy, with some graphical improvements, smoother loading transitions, slightly easier controls and a few minor level changes. They didn’t even work in some of the improvements in the sequels, where it was harder to lose items and there was less of a “one true path” for each stage.

(Actually, one thing did change, and I didn’t love it: They kept the Japanese voice acting for the cutscenes. So you only get to enjoy “I feel the cosmos!” via subtitles. Bah!)

Overall: This is a port of the original. I got it on sale for $10; I’m glad I didn’t pay full price for a game I effectively already own. Katamari Forever is a far superior game that basically encompasses the best of this one. If at all possible, play that. (Or, if they make We Love Katamari Reroll; that would likely be the best you’ll get.)
