I’m apparently looking for “comfort food” in my media in these trying times. This will be my second time plying with the randomizer mod and my fourth time overall playing Stardew Valley. (Madman I am, I named my characters Duela, Tres and Forsythe.)
I edited the randomizer flags so that the bundles were the only thing that got randomized, and I also added the Automation mod, which has taken a bunch of the frustration out of making mayo, cheese, gold bars, etc. (Apparently you can automate crab pots too, which now I want to do.) That mod means that you’ll be constantly running out of coal if you aren’t careful, but producing mayo and cheese is much easier.
My bundles on Better Farm were a mixed bag; the noteworthy ones were the FAKE NEWS bundle (16 soggy newspapers), the reclaimer’s bundle (which called for all the different fishing trash), the Bob-Omb bundle (which called for all the explosives), and the Mayonnaise Stockpile bundle (which required all the different types of mayo in quantity). More irritating were a geologist’s bundle that required seven different geode-only minerals; a legendary fish bundle; and a high-quality deep-sea fishing bundle (which I was deeply frustrated not to get in Winter Year 1). I reiterate my wish for a “lotsa bundles” mod. (There are mods to make very easy bundles, and much bigger and harder ones, but nothing to make more bundles. The randomizer is the only collection of interesting bundles I know of.)
I also got to see some of the v1.4 content, which seems to be mostly lategame stuff. There’s a desert trader and a new bundle in the abandoned Jojamart. You can build a fishing pond on your property and upgrade it to get roe and other goodies. A wood chipper that can turn hardwood into regular wood is available for sale. A few other small, quality-of-life additions. (Rumor has it v1.5 will include new fruit trees.)
I stopped after about 30 hours, in Spring 2, when I had done everything except the two hardest fishing bundles. I actually had a dino egg in my incubator and could have potentially set up a fishing pond or something, but I wasn’t feeling it by that point. I’d gotten my fix and that was enough for this run. I wonder if, the next time I get the urge, I’ll log into my 80-hour save (Duela) and do the late-game material with the hideous amount of cash she’s sitting on.
