Disenchantment (Netflix, Season 2) - This has gotten stronger as they get past the easy jokes and focus more on an ongoing plot. (In a lot of ways, the first half-dozen episodes are not really representative of the show at large.) The very first episode of this season addresses the mysterious sorcerers spying on Bean all through last season and sets up the antagonism between Bean and her mother, which I was afraid would get dragged out. They then fill the mid-season (…half a dozen episodes) with more episodic content, then the events of the ninth episode lead right into the last, revealing a bunch of threads left hanging (What’s Dagmar’s next move, what was up with the music box, what did Luci give up leaving hell, and why on earth do we care about Derrick?)

The Good Place (TV Series, Season 3) - This continues to delight. The actress who plays Janet deserves many awards for managing to play everyone else for basically a full episode. I am very amused by their ability to get actors/characters to recur; I particularly liked Simone reappearing later on. We actually rolled from watching this on Netflix right into watching Season 4 as it’s airing on Hulu.

Galavant (TV Series, Season 1) - Hitting this right after Disenchantment was amusing; apparently I’m feeling comedic fantasy tropes this month. Of course, this is live-action, musical, and has very little magic involved. The guest star collection was amusing. I mean, they aren’t Glee, but getting John Stamos and Weird Al to do singing one-offs is pretty much a sure thing. The first season ends on a tremendous cliffhanger (that I’m sure was frustrating to people watching this live), but I can go straight to the second season on Netflix. Yay!)
