You’re a hero out to defeat evil or something, that part really doesn’t matter. Each round, you get a limited number of battles to try to achieve as high a level as possible, but your equipment and a multiplier for each boss you beat get carried over from round to round. So the first few times you play, you stay in the “Level 1” and “Level 25” area to grind up and play things safe. Once you have some better equipment, you can go running straight to the “Level 300” area and start making some serious XP just off the bat. The leaderboard has people getting well into the 10,000s.

I think this deserves additional commentary, just based on the amount of time I’ve put into it. Now, you can’t call it an rpg in the truest sense because there’s no plot, no dialogue, and no npcs—this is a “numbers go up” grinding game. But it’s incredibly fun for that genre.

After a dozen runs, once you’re strong enough to defeat the third boss (to the right of the starting area, in the little Level 2222 nook), you can do money-grinding runs and unlock every buyable item in the game. The Level 777 nook at the top of that area and the Level 2222 nook itself are some of the best places to earn money, with almost every monster giving a good payout. The surrounding areas are also decent, especially if a MONEY x3 (or better) bonus appears on them. Once you can get the Knight Sword, Knight Armor and some good gems, you can just pump all of your stat points into Luck and go to town to unlock the most expensive items, all of the accessory slots, etc.

Also, when money-hunting, the BONUS: ??? spots give you rare encounters, including an airship that always gives a much better money payout than the usual monsters but no experience. Once you’ve collected enough weapons, apparently there are rare enemies in the BONUS: !!! spots that will teleport you to extra maps where rare drops are available, though I have yet to see this for myself.

There does come a point where, instead of money grinding, you need to switch to farming areas for rare drops for your next set of upgrades, something I’m less enthused about, but I’ll probably end up wasting another few hours on.

There’s a wiki for the game because no one in the player base has individually found enough of the secrets to write a FAQ. This game is shockingly large, with dozens of items only available via random drop and a constant stream of stronger monsters in nastier areas. You’re constantly hitting ceilings, only to blast through them with the next equipment upgrade.

Overall: This is a casual game, not a real rpg. But it scratches a certain rpg itch that I found addictive. Playable in 15-minute bursts, and recommended.
