Right State: A Graphic Novel – Not-Bill O’Reilly gets tapped by Not-Obama’s administration to infiltrate a right-wing militia ahead of the election race against Not-McCain and Not-Palin. I feel like the author lifted speeches straight from ring-wing pundits and Faux News comment threads. While I suspect the intent was to “understand” this wing of American society, I feel like a) the narrative never really gelled for me, and b) If I wanted right-wing nutjobbery, I have the internet.

Neil Young’s Greendale - Apparently based on a concept album (and later a movie) by Neil Young. On one hand, it’s heavy-handed in its politics in a way that makes me sad. On the other, it’s a well-structured story with some interesting world and character-building, and the art is very good. It makes me want to find a copy of the album, certainly.

Hellblazer: Bloodlines - Collecting the Ennis issues that were between "Dangerous Habits" and "Fear and Loathing" so hadn't been collected before, to my knowledge. Honestly, it's mostly his weaker stuff, which is probably part of why they opted to skip it in the first go-round, and it's a bit repetitive; but it's still far better than anything Azzarello ever put in the book. It also was nice to see there was an origin story for Ellie, which I’d never read before. (Even if he basically re-used the same story in Preacher.)

Leaving Megalopolis - Gail Simone's creator-owned Kickstarter project. As I suspected, it's got a Secret Six vibe going for it, but it's also rather grimdark and a little more Walking Dead than I'm a fan of. And gory, awfully gory. Nothing you wouldn't see if you've read a lot of Vertigo titles, but unusual for a superhero book by Gail Simone.

Green Lantern: First Flight - Underwhelming. Had a bunch of the “mighty whitey” problems the live-action movie had, along with similar issues of requiring you to know the mythology but ignoring swaths of it. Also, it had an absurdly large body count. Add to that my issues with Hal Jordan as “generically heroic” (as I’ve ranted before) and you have a largely uninspiring movie.
