My family in a nutshell
Dec. 24th, 2004 08:20 pmSo, I had today off from work and came out to Long Island to do Christmas with my family. For those of you who don't know, my father's side of the family is [nominally] Christian, and my mother loves a good tradition and excuse for food, gifts and family togetherness (her three favorite things) in any case. So, tonight we had a little "nuclear family" night, and tomorrow we'll be seeing the extended family.
So what did we do? Well, for dinner we had ham and latkas. My [Christian] father requested the latkas, my [Jewish] mother wanted the ham. This seems so very apropos for my family, somehow. Then we played Trivial Pursuit (kids versus adults, and my parents won, but not by much). Right now, my father and my sister are out looking at lights/decorations on all the neighborhood houses, and when they get back, he and I will watch It's a Wonderful Life.
(We both also watch A Christmas Carol around this time of year, but he watches the Alister Sim version, and I prefer the Patrick Stewart one.)
Just wait until you hear about our New Year's traditions.
